About the movie
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of this unique animated cinematic event, we are proud to present a film that highlights a bi-nation collaboration between India’s animation legend Ram Mohan and Japanese director Yugo Sako, in remastered 4k. The film was originally produced in Japan at Studio Ghibli with nearly 450 artists from both nations contributing to its creation.
This is a beautiful animated gem, and still relatively unknown – even to many diehard fans of Studio Ghibli! The magical realism Studio Ghibli is known for, mixed with a 5000-year-old page from our history.
Based on the Sanskrit epic the Ramayana, The Legend of Prince Rama follows our god Prabhu Shree Rama – as he is banished from the kingdom of Ayodhya. Before his new pastoral life can begin, his wife, Sita, is kidnapped by the demon king Ravana, and Rama, with the help of his brother Lakshmana, must defeat the demon army to recover her.
